The Pittsburgh Steelers will have a new face starting at right guard this upcoming season after Isaac Seumalo bailed for the desert in free agency and Mason McCormick is seemingly filling that vacancy.
Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton believes Mike McCarthy’s team is a possible suitor for Mekhi Becton, who would join the fold alongside Spencer Anderson, Brock Hoffman and rookie Gennings Dunker.
“Although Becton started in 14 of 15 outings with the Chargers, he battled knee and hand injuries that may have affected his performances,” Moton wrote. “The 6’7″, 363-pound guard also suffered a concussion last year. Los Angeles released him before free agency in March.”
Becton was the No. 11 overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft. The Louisville product, 27, started 30 games at tackle for the New York Jets over three seasons before joining the Philadelphia Eagles in 2024. After transitioning to guard, he won a Super Bowl blocking for Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley, then inked a two-year, $20 million deal with the Chargers.
“Becton has an extensive injury history that dates back to his four-year stint with the New York Jets,” Moton said. “Yet when healthy, the massive interior lineman can be an asset to a team that needs insurance for an underperforming starter or intends to feature a downhill ground attack in the upcoming campaign.”
Pro Football Focus handed Becton a 35.7 overall grade last season, which ranked 79th out of 81 guards. Moton also named the Seattle Seahawks as a fit for Becton.
