The Pittsburgh Steelers could still opt to further strengthen their wide receiver room before the start of the season.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have already bolstered their wide receiver room this offseason with the additions of veteran Michael Pittman Jr. and rookie Germie Bernard. However, former Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman believes it could be smart to add one more player to the room.

Sherman thinks that Pittsburgh would be an ideal landing spot for four-time Pro Bowl and All-Pro wide receiver Stefon Diggs.

“I think a team with a young receiving corps [or] an inexperienced receiving corps could take a shot at him,” Sherman said on his podcast. “Could the Pittsburgh Steelers use him? I think they could.”

Diggs’ best football is likely behind him at 32, but he proved he is still very capable of being an impact player, racking up 85 catches for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns with the New England Patriots last year.

He also played an important role in the Patriots offense while helping them reach Super Bowl LX, recording another 14 catches for 110 yards and a touchdown in the playoffs.

The question is if Diggs would even be interested in joining the Steelers crowded wide receiver room, highlighted by DK Metcalf, Pittman and Bernard. Diggs could likely go somewhere else and be a team’s No. 2 option, at the very least.

It’s unclear what has held up Diggs from signing with another team. Maybe he could be waiting for a summer injury that could pave the way for him to have a much larger role on a team.

Of course, that’s never something a team wants to think about or predict, but if that were to happen to the Steelers, Diggs would certainly be an intriguing replacement option.

A fifth-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings, Diggs has recorded 942 receptions for 11,504 yards and 74 touchdowns in his professional career.
