The Pittsburgh Steelers have officially named Scott McCurley as their new inside linebackers coach, replacing Aaron Curry, who was hired by the New York Jets last month.
A Western Pennsylvania native, McCurley brings a wealth of experience to the Steelers, having spent the last five seasons (2020-24) as the linebackers coach for the Dallas Cowboys. With 18 years in the NFL, including 15 in a coaching role, McCurley is well-equipped to elevate the Steelers’ linebacker corps.
During his time with the Cowboys, McCurley played a role in the development of standout linebacker Micah Parsons, who recorded a team-high 12 sacks in 2023 and earned his fourth consecutive Pro Bowl selection. Under McCurley’s guidance, Dallas linebackers contributed 22 of the team’s 52 sacks last season. Additionally, linebacker Eric Kendricks posted a career-high 145 tackles despite missing two games due to injury.
Before his time in Dallas, McCurley worked in various roles over 13 seasons with the Green Bay Packers. In 2018, he helped coach the Packers’ defense to rank eighth in the NFL in sacks.
McCurley’s coaching expertise and his Pennsylvania roots make him a valuable addition to the Steelers’ staff as they continue to strengthen their defensive unit for the upcoming season.
