The Pittsburgh Steelers missed out on trade target Jakobi Meyers Tuesday. He was dealt instead to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

As the trade deadline looms closer, the Pittsburgh Steelers are in the market for playmakers on both sides of the ball. Offensively, they are looking for a wide receiver for the second year in a row despite acquiring one this week. However, one of their potential targets, Jakobi Meyers, is now off the board.

ESPN sources: Raiders are trading WR Jakobi Meyers to the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for fourth- and sixth-round picks.

Meyers, who signed a three-year deal with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2023, was most frequently associated with Pittsburgh. The thought was that he would be a complementary WR2 across from DK Metcalf.

The seventh-year veteran is considered more of a route-running, separation specialist who would pair well with Metcalf’s explosive playmaking. His contract would have been cheap for this season. The question was draft capital cost.

Previous reports suggested Meyer’s cost would be a potential day two pick at minimum. To see a fourth and sixth rounder be passed up by the Steelers is a bit of a head-scratcher. It is possible that Pittsburgh wanted a pick swap in exchange.

For now, the Steelers’ options are limited if they want to continue to add to the receivers room. Players like Jaylen Waddle and Calvin Ridley have been linked to a Pittsburgh trade with a wide range of projected compensation.

It remains to be seen if the Steelers missed out on a big opportunity for Meyers. The deadline comes to a close at 4 PM on Tuesday, November 4th.
