The Pittsburgh Steelers have missed out on a second wide receiver trade, as the New Orleans Saints are trading Rashid Shaheed to the Seattle Seahawks, according to multiple reports. Shaheed will reportedly fetch the Saints fourth- and fifth-round pick from Seattle in the deal.
The Steelers had been connected to Shaheed in the buildup to the 2025 NFL Trade Deadline, which is at 4 p.m. on Tuesday. Another receiver connected to the Steelers, Las Vegas Raiders wide out Jakobi Meyers, was traded earlier on Tuesday.
The Steelers have been in the market for a wide receiver since trading George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys in May, and have specifically been looking for an outside receiver that can stretch the field or create easy separation — skillsets lacking among their current group behind DK Metcalf.
But they have been unable to strike a deal so far, with just a few hours remaining to the deadline. The Steelers did sign former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling, a move that head coach Mike Tomlin minimized on Tuesday.
Shaheed will join a Seattle squad that is 6-2 and tied for first place in an ultra-competitive AFC West. The Seahawks, Los Angels Rams and San Francisco 49ers all have six wins.
He will help replace DK Metcalf as a deep threat in the Seattle offense. Shaheed is one of the fastest offensive players in the league, having hit 21.72 miles per hour on a Week 5 touchdown this season. That’s the sixth-fastest mark for an ballcarrier this season, according to NFL Next Gen Stats. Shaheed also has the 12th-fastest play of the season, from Week 4.
A 5-foot-11, 185-pound receiver, Shaheed has spent his entire four-year NFL career with the Saints, where he signed as an undrafted free agent out of Weber State in 2022.
Despite his undrafted status, Shaheed made an impact as a rookie, starting six games and recording 488 receiving yards and two touchdowns. He had his best season in 2023, when he caught 46 passes for 719 yards and five scores. He was also an All-Pro as a punt returner that season, with a 13.6 yards per return average and one touchdown.
A meniscus injury limited him to six games in 2024. Before the injury, he posted a career high with 17.5 yards per reception, but he finished with just 349 yards and three touchdowns on the season. He also retuned another punt for a touchdown.
So far this season, Shaheed has caught 44 passes for 499 yards and two touchdowns, and had been the Saints’ clear No. 2 wide receiver behind Chris Olave.
The Saints signed Shaheed to a one-year, $5.2 million contract last offseason, meaning he will be a free agent next March.
