Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has found himself on the wrong side of NFL history once again.

The Pittsburgh Steelers failed to end their postseason win drought, losing to the Houston Texans 30-6 on Monday night, and now head coach Mike Tomlin owns yet another undesirable playoff record.

Tomlin is joining former Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis as the only coaches in NFL history to lose seven straight playoff games, per Josh Dubow of the Associated Press.

The Bengals parted ways with Lewis after he became the first NFL coach to lose seven postseason games without any wins.

That, of course, will only strengthen Steelers fans beliefs that it’s time for the team to finally part ways with its long-time head coach.

However, Tomlin was not willing to entertain his future in Pittsburgh following his latest playoff loss.

“I’m not even in that mindset as I sit here tonight,” Tomlin said. “I’m more in the mindset of what transpired in this stadium, and certainly what we did and didn’t do. Not a big-picture mentality as I sit here tonight.”

ESPN insider Adam Schefter recently floated the idea that Tomlin could take a TV job after this season while Peter Schrager of ESPN also expressed that he thinks Tomlin would be excellent on TV.

“Having worked at Fox, having worked at NFL Network, and now here at ESPN, there’s a chair waiting … for Mike Tomlin to make a lot of money talking football if he so wishes,” Schrager said.

However, Tomlin threw cold water on a post-coaching career job in TV on The Rich Eisen Show last week.

“I don’t participate in any of that,” Tomlin told Eisen when asked about the TV rumors. “I can’t allow myself to. I’m not even really privy to the specifics of what you’re talking about. I just realize it’s a component of what I do and what we do. You better learn to live with it or at least endure it.”

Either way, the Steelers will have to make a decision on Tomlin’s future this offseason. Tomlin’s contract extension with the team, a three-year deal he signed in 2024, is reportedly a two-year deal with an option.

Only time will tell if the team will pick up that option in the coming months.
