Steelers mailbag: Will Pittsburgh upset the Lions?
Behind the Steel Curtain Behind the Steel Curtain

The last weekend before Christmas – a very bittersweet time of year. Yes, Christmas is the absolute best day of the year, but it also marks the end of the most wonderful time of the year, which is always a bit sad.

The Christmas season isn’t the only thing nearing its end, as the NFL regular season has just three weeks remaining. The Pittsburgh Steelers will travel to Detroit to face a fellow 8-6 team in the Lions. In this very brief edition of the mailbag

Q: We have been so inconsistent. What team do you think plays against the Lions this week?steelwoman

A: The offense has proven it’s capable of putting up points. The Lions’ defense ranks 25th in EPA per play since Week 10. For reference, the Tennessee Titans rank 24th. If the Steelers can put up points and go tick-for-tack with the Lions’ offense, who will almost certainly put up a horde of points of their own, they have a shot. If not, this will look very similar to the loss to the Buffalo Bills.

Q: Thanksgiving 1998: Was that Da Bus overtime coin flip fiasco? 5-0-1: Was the tie when Rudy played because Large Benjamin had Covid?Polamolicules_Dude

A: Yes, that was the coin toss debacle. The Steelers lost all of their remaining games that year. Fun fact about the 2021 game – it’s the only game I’ve ever gone to as a fan. My unpopular opinion is I was never a big “go to game” guy. I went to the Lions-Steelers game in 2021 because my friend had free tickets, so a group of us went. It was in the 30s, raining, and I sat through a Lions team that wasn’t good yet, playing Mason Rudolph. Pat Freiermuth fumbled late in OT, which is what led to the tie.
