PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin mentioned starting left guard Isaac Seumalo (tricep) and outside linebacker Nick Herbig in his injury roundup after Monday night’s 28-15 win over the Miami Dolphins.
“Isaac Seumalo has got a triceps injury that’s being evaluated,” Tomlin said after the game. “Nick Herbig’s got a hamstring injury that’s being evaluated. The rest are bumps and bruises associated with play.”
It’s unclear when Herbig suffered his hamstring injury. The Steelers play the Detroit Lions in six days, so that will be something to monitor.
After the Steelers were gifted a free set of downs against the Dolphins, Seumalo stayed down on one knee and was slow to get up. The veteran road-paver walked to the sideline under his own power and entered the blue medical tent.
Seumalo was announced to be dealing with a tricep injury. He was initially listed as doubtful to return before being downgraded to out.
Spencer Anderson replaced Seumalo as he went to get checked out. After a moment, Seumalo emerged from the tent with his helmet, stood on by teammates for a few plays, then went to the locker room after the third quarter ended.
Seumalo dealt with a pectoral ailment earlier in the season. Including Monday night, Seumalo has played in 13 games this season, starting all of them. He spent the first seven years of his career with the Philadelphia Eagles, who drafted him in the third round in 2016. He started over 60 games during that stretch with the Eagles.
The Steelers signed Seumalo to a three-year deal in free agency in 2023, also adding Nate Herbig that same offseason. Both of the guards the team had at the time — Kevin Dotson and James Daniels — have been replaced since then.
Nickelback Brandin Echols wasn’t listed in the injury roundup by Tomlin, but he suffered an injury while blocking on a punt return for Calvin Austin III in the first half.
Echols gingerly walked past the numbers on the field toward the sideline, then crouched before getting there. Trainers guided him to the blue medical tent behind the Steelers’ bench, but not before he knelt once more.
Echols exited the tent with his helmet, but with a noticeable limp. He didn’t return to the game when the Steelers’ defense retook the field, but he stood on the sideline, appearing to be ready when his name was called. He entered on a third-and-6 shortly after.
Asante Samuel Jr., starting on the boundary for the injured James Pierre (calf) had an interception during the Dolphins’ second possession.
