The pocket might get a little tighter for Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers against the Miami Dolphins at Acrisure Stadium on “Monday Night Football.”
This after guard Isaac Seumalo suffered a triceps injury in the second half. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Seumalo is “doubtful to return.”
With the unfortunate update, the 42-year-old Rodgers lost a valuable protector. Fortunately for him and the Steelers, barring any catastrophic collapse or an asteroid crashing on the field, it looks like they are on their way to victory with a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter, 28-15, as of writing.
The 32-year-old Suemalo, who hails from Hawaii, has been an underrated piece of the Steelers’ offensive line since signing with the team on a three-year, $24 million contract in 2023.
He has started 13 games this season, helping Pittsburgh to a 7-6 record entering the game against Miami.
Last year, he missed four games due to a pectoral injury.
The Steelers are in desperation mode, with the playoffs on the horizon. They are half a game behind the Baltimore Ravens for the top spot in the AFC North, and winning the division title is the easiest way for the Steelers to earn a ticket to the playoffs.
Pittsburgh’s remaining assignments are the Detroit Lions, the Cleveland Browns, and the Ravens.
It remains unclear if Suemalo will miss an extended period, but it goes without saying that the Steelers will need every firepower they can get to avoid an early exit.
Rodgers has repeatedly implied that this is his farewell season.
