With the NFL trade deadline approaching on Nov. 4, CBS Sports’ Emory Hunt made a trade projection that had the Pittsburgh Steelers landing running back Breece Hall from the New York Jets.
“I think this would make the Steelers a favorite in the AFC North,” Hunt said, via CBS Sports on YouTube. “When you look at what Breece Hall is, he’s a combination of what they have in Kaleb Johnson and also Kenneth Gainwell, with a little bit of Jaylen Warren, because he’s a combination of all three. He’s explosive, he can catch the ball out of the backfield, he has great vision, good footwork, and he’s a home-run threat. It really balances out the offense.”
The Sporting News’ Vinnie Iyer also has the Steelers acquiring Hall at the trade deadline.
“The Steelers are forcing Jaylen Warren into too big of a role ahead of Kenneth Gainwell with rookie Kaleb Johnson being a disappointing non-factor,” Iyer wrote. “Warren should be more of a complementary reserve to a more explosive scrimmage threat, which Hall represents.”
In seven games this year, Hall has rushed for 448 yards on 99 carries (4.5 average) and no touchdowns. He has 19 receptions for 164 yards.
Against the Steelers in Week 1, Hall rushed for 107 yards on 19 carries (5.4 average), along with two receptions for 38 yards.
With the Jets off to an 0-7 start, New York could offload Hall for some draft capital. The Jets are not going anywhere this year, obviously.
The Steelers are solid at running back with Jaylen Warren and Kenneth Gainwell, but Hall would be an upgrade over rookie Kaleb Johnson, who has struggled at times this season. A three-headed monster attack in the backfield with Warren, Gainwell and Hall would be enticing.
Hall also has a close relationship with Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers from their time in New York together.
Hall said on the Da Get Got Pod with Marshawn Lynch and Mike Robinson this offseason that the four-time NFL MVP was phenomenal in New York.
“Very misunderstood person,” Hall said. “Great dude, comes off to people a certain way. But once you really get to know him, you realize how good of a person he is. Last year, when you’re losing games, the blame gets put on the faces of the team, and it just so happened to be guys like me, Sauce [Gardner], Garrett [Wilson], Aaron [Rodgers], Quinnen [Williams], and Quincy [Williams].
“I feel like when you’re losing, somebody has to get let go — but what people don’t realize is when stuff is crazy organizationally, then it’s hard for players to have stability and win games. … But I love Aaron. Me and him still have a great relationship to this day. That’s my guy.”
