The Pittsburgh Steelers released cornerback Kyler McMichael in their initial round of roster cuts on Friday. McMichael signed a reserve/future contract with the Steelers in January after spending time with the club in training camp in 2024.

McMichael joined the Steelers mid-training camp on July 30 and was released as part of the final cut down to 53 players on Aug. 26. He did not play with any other team after being released by the Steelers in August.

McMichael is in his fourth pro season out of North Carolina. The 24-year-old appeared in two preseason game for the Steelers last year, recording five tackles and one pass breakup. He played a total of 34 defensive snaps, all as an outside cornerback or Dime cornerback.

The 6-foot, 203-pound Atlanta native originally signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent out of North Carolina after the 2022 NFL Draft. After being cut by the Bucs, he spent the 2022 season on the Buffalo Bills practice squad. In 2023, he was released by the Bills, claimed on waivers by the Arizona Cardinals, but then waived with an injury designation and missed the rest of the season.

The Steelers also released cornerback Mikey Victor in their initial round of roster cuts on Friday. Victor signed with the Steelers on Aug. 12 due to a rash of injuries at the cornerback position.

Cory Trice (hamstring) and rookie Donte Kent (right foot/ankle) missed all three of the team’s preseason games. Cornerback Cameron McCutcheon was also waived with an injury designation after suffering a hamstring injury during the Steelers’ preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Victor was signed in a corresponding move to waiving McCutcheon.

Cornerback Kam Alexander was also cut on Friday. Alexander, who was previously with the Seattle Seahawks, just signed with the Steelers on Monday.
