Steelers rookie quarterback Will Howard reveals a Pittsburgh legend has been a really good mentor for him to start his NFL career.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are not in a rush to get rookie quarterback Will Howard onto the field. But that doesn’t mean the sixth-round pick isn’t doing whatever he can to get better, which he revealed includes being mentored by Steelers legendary quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

“We actually have the same agent, so we got connected through that. He’s been really good. He’s been really supportive of me through this whole process,” Howard said on the “Up & Adams Show.” “I didn’t talk to him before becoming a Steeler, but throughout now being a Steeler, getting to know him, he’s been really helpful for me, texting me, checking in last week. Just been a really good mentor. I can see him being a really good mentor for me going forward.”

Howard has an uphill battle to land the starting job, but having a player like Roethlisberger in his corner could do wonders for his career.

That could all come to a halt if Pittsburgh lands quarterback Aaron Rodgers, which many believe will eventually happen. However, Howard revealed he would love to play with Rodgers.

“Idolizing, growing up,” Howard said. “I don’t know what’s going to happen, who knows. That’s all over my head, but I’d love to be in a room and learn from him.”

If that is how things play out, Howard would then have two future Hall of Fame quarterbacks to learn from, on and off the field. That would certainly set him up to succeed at the next level.

Pair that with the championship pedigree Howard is bringing to the Steelers after leading the Buckeyes to a College Football National Championship in 2024 and he’ll be a very intriguing player to watch over the next couple of years.

In 2024, Howard threw for 4,010 yards, 35 touchdowns and 10 interceptions and rushed for 226 yards and seven more scores.
