PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers starting guard Isaac Seumalo left Sunday’s primetime loss to the Green Bay Packers with a pectoral ailment. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin didn’t rule him out for the team’s matchup with the Indianapolis Colts this week.
“Isaac Seumalo can be characterized as questionable with his pec injury,” Tomlin said Tuesday at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex. “I just had a brief conversation with him in the training room. He’s in a good mindset. He certainly is gonna be limited at the early portions of the week, but he’ll have a chance to contribute, particularly because he’s a veteran player.
“He has some global snaps in his bank that could be an asset to him in terms of being ready to play on a limited number of snaps that maybe a younger player would not have.”
If Seumalo ends up not being able to go, versatile understudy Calvin Anderson will fill in. Anderson took over on Sunday night when Seumalo exited, but the Steelers didn’t run the ball much while trying to catch up on the scoreboard.
“Me going in was kinda (how it was) during the preseason,” Anderson said Monday. “Obviously, I feel most comfortable at guard, so it’s no different, honestly. It’s just another day at the office. I know, obviously, we couldn’t run our heavy stuff because Isaac had got hurt. … Things happen in the midst of a game and we can’t use that as an excuse or anything. We’ve still gotta execute.”
