The 2026 NFL Draft class is absolutely loaded with talent. The class could include Texas’ Arch Manning, Penn State’s Drew Allar, South Carolina’s LaNorris Sellers, LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier, Clemson’s Cade Klubnik, Arizona State’s Sam Leavitt, UCLA’s Nico Iamaleava, Oregon’s Dante Moore and Miami’s Carson Beck.
The Pittsburgh Steelers, who are in desperate need of a franchise quarterback, will have their eyes set on several of the top college QBs this fall.
The 2025 NFL Draft concluded this past Saturday, but it’s never too early for mock drafts, right? Pro Football Focus has the Steelers landing Penn State quarterback Drew Allar at 14th overall in their way-too-early 2026 mock draft.
“Aside from a dismal performance against Notre Dame, in which he got little help from his wide receivers, Allar had another excellent season as Penn State’s starter last year. He is an excellent protector of the football, with a career 1.5% turnover-worthy play rate, and has a cannon arm that he uses to sling passes down the middle of the field,” PFF wrote.
“If Penn State can find him some legitimate help on the outside, Allar is poised to bring the Nittany Lions back to the playoff.”
Allar’s first season as the Nittany Lions’ full-time starter in 2023 was rather impressive, completing 59.9% of his passes for 2,631 yards, 25 touchdowns compared to 2 interceptions, and a quarterback rating of 136.9.
In 2024, Allar increased his completion percentage to 66.5% and passing yardage to 3,327 yards. He also tossed 24 touchdowns with eight interceptions and a quarterback rating of 153.5.
Ryan Edwards of CBS Sports has the Steelers selecting UCLA quarterback Nico Iamaleava at 16th overall in his way-too-soon 2026 mock draft. Meanwhile, Dane Brugler of The Athletic has the Steelers landing LSU quarterback at 16th overall in his way-too-early mock draft.
One thing is clear: All signs point to the Steelers landing their next franchise quarterback in the 2026 NFL Draft.
