Ohio State wide receiver Emeka Egbuka and running back Quinshon Judkins are not the only Buckeyes that have been linked to the Pittsburgh Steelers, as Josh Liskiewitz of Pro Football Focus recently tabbed Ohio State quarterback Will Howard as the Steelers’ fourth-round pick in his seven-round mock draft.
“Howard is an excellent athlete for being such a well-built quarterback and flashes accuracy and touch to all parts of the field. Besides a tough outing against Michigan, he racked up 12 big-time throws compared to two turnover-worthy plays in his other final seven games of the 2024 season (including the playoff championship run),” Liskiewitz wrote.
With the quarterback class considered weak this year, a Day 3 pick at QB seems realistic. Steelers president Art Rooney II called the QB position the No. 1 priority for the team this offseason. But the Steelers are overwhelmingly likely to re-sign one of their incumbent passers, and will probably do so before the start of free agency in early March.
Howard is an intriguing prospect, however. He shined in Chip Kelly’s offense and led the Buckeyes to a National Championship. He could be someone that could develop into an NFL quarterback with the right guidance.
In his only season with the Buckeyes after transferring from Kansas State, Howard set career highs in passing yards (3,490), passing touchdowns (32), passer rating (175.8) and completion percentage (72.6).
The Steelers may like top Senior Bowl quarterback prospect Jalen Milroe, as has been reported, but they sure didn’t show much interest in him in Mobile, according to Alan Saunders of Steelers Now. If the Steelers draft a quarterback this year, don’t expect it to be until later.
