EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Pittsburgh Steelers third-year cornerback Joey Porter Jr. entered the blue medical tent during the third quarter of the team’s clash against the New York Jets on Sunday afternoon.

He exited the tent and was jogging on the sidelines, but didn’t have his helmet. He then re-entered the tent, came out and sat on the bench. It is unclear what Porter’s injury is.

The series before, Justin Fields and the Jets drove 68 yards in eight plays, capping the march with Fields’ two-yard scoring surge. Up to the point Porter entered the tent, Fields had gone 12 of 15 for 173 yards and a touchdown. Garrett Wilson, Fields’ Ohio State teammate, had seven grabs for 95 yards and a 33-yard touchdown.

Steelers safety DeShon Elliott hurt his knee earlier in the contest and was designated as doubtful to return. Beyond Porter, the Steelers have veteran covermen Darius Slay, Jalen Ramsey, Brandin Echols and James Pierre.

Ramsey sparked the Steelers toward the end of the first half, popping Fields shortly after a throw, then drew a Jets personal foul penalty.

Joey Porter Jr. missed three training camp practices with a hand injury. Through two seasons as a pro, he’s played in 33 regular-season games, starting 27 of them. He has 113 combined tackles, 17 passes defended and a pair of interceptions.
