The Steelers-Jets showdown at the Meadowlands scored the second-most viewership for CBS in a Week 1 regional game window since 1998 with 17.051 million, according to CBS Sports. Four-time NFL MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers’s debut with the Steelers played a big role in the massive ratings, and he certainly delivered for the Black and Gold.

Rodgers tossed four touchdown passes in Sunday’s 34-32 win over the Jets. Rodgers, who has struggled in Week 1 games in recent years, showcased that the old gunslinger still has plenty of juice left.

To say the least, Rodgers was glad to get revenge on his former team.

“I was happy to beat everyone associated with the Jets,” Rodgers said in his postgame interview when asked about defeating the Jets, given the context of his exit interview with head coach Aaron Glenn.

On the flip side, Justin Fields also had a standout performance against his former team. It was the first time in league history opposing QBs who each played for the opposing team the previous season have started against each other in Week 1.

The Jets finished with 394 yards of offense, 182 in the run game. Fields completed 16 of 22 passes (72.7%) for 218 yards with one touchdown, no interceptions, and a passer rating of 119.1. Fields also rushed for 48 yards on 12 carries and two touchdowns.

Fields had an interesting answer when asked what he meant by saying he didn’t think a lot of people expected the Jets “to come out like that” against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.

“I’m just calling it what it is. They acquired all these guys in the offseason, future Hall of Famers on that side of the ball, and we put up 32,” Fields said. “We have to keep getting better.”
