Behind the Steel Curtain
In the Steelers’ dominant 34-12 win over the Cincinnati Bengals last weekend, the heated dispute between Pittsburgh Steelers safety Jalen Ramsey and Bengals star receiver Ja’Marr Chase stole the show.
Early in the fourth quarter, Ramsey and Chase, who had been jawing at each other all afternoon, finally got into a scuffle. Ramsey landed a punch on Chase and was ejected for the remainder of the game. Afterwards, Ramsey said it was because Chase spit on him.
The NFL announced Saturday that Ramsey received additional discipline for the fight.
ESPN’s Brooke Pryor reported that Ramsey’s punch resulted in a fine of $14,491.
Despite Ramsey’s ejection, Chase was not disqualified from the game despite his involvement. The wideout was later suspended by the NFL for one game after it was concluded that he did indeed spit on the Steelers’ defensive back.
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin didn’t sound upset with the way Ramsey reacted to the situation when he met with the media earlier this week.
“I have no message if someone spits in your face. Do what comes natural.” Tomlin said.
Chase will lose his entire game check for this weekend, worth $507,156. Ramsey ended up missing just over 12 minutes of game action and $14,491. The Steelers will certainly be happy to have Ramsey back on the field for their battle against the Chicago Bears.
