PITTSBURGH — Rookie defensive tackle Derrick Harmon remains limited in practice, despite claiming that he is ready to go for the Pittsburgh Steelers in their Week 3 road game against the New England Patriots on Sunday.
Harmon, who is recovering from a preseason MCL sprain, was listed as a limited participant in practice for the second straight day on Thursday. While Wednesday’s practice session was in full pads, Thursday’s was not, and Harmon still being limited should provide some caution for his claim that he will be ready to go for Sunday.
“I’m ready to go,” he said. “If my number is called, I’m ready to go.”
Elsewhere, cornerback Darius Slay (shoulder) returned to practice after a veteran day off on Wednesday. Linebacker Patrick Queen (oblique) was a full participant for the second straight day. Both are expected to suit up on Sunday.
Defensive backs Joey Porter Jr. and DeShon Elliott have both yet to practice this week, and seem to be trending toward missing their second consecutive games with injury.
Queen suffered an oblique injury during the Week 2 game against the Seattle Seahawks. He is considered probable to play in Week 3 and returned to practice in full on Wednesday, Sept. 17.
Slay is dealing with a shoulder injury stemming from the team’s Week 2 game against the Seattle Seahawks. He did not practice on Wednesday, Sept. 17, but is considered probable to play. Slay returned to practice on Thursday, Sept. 18.
Scharping appeared on the team’s injury report on Wednesday, Sept. 17, when he was a limited participant with a knee injury. Tests have revealed that Scharping tore his ACL and he is expected to miss the remainder of the 2025 season.
Harmon suffered a knee injury during the Steelers’ preseason finale against the Carolina Panthers on Aug. 21. He was diagnosed with a right MCL sprain. He missed the Steelers’ first and second games of the season. Head coach Mike Tomlin called him questionable to play in Week 3 against the New England Patriots.
Harmon returned to practice for the first time on Wednesday, Sept. 17. Harmon was again limited on Thursday, Sept. 18.
Elliott suffered a knee injury during the Steelers’ Week 1 win over the New York Jets. He did not return to the game and was diagnosed with an MCL sprain. Elliott did not play in Week 2. He is questionable to return in Week 3.
Porter Jr. suffered a hamstring injury in Week 1 against the New York Jets. Tomlin said he was held out as a precaution, but Porter did not practice the following week and missed the team’s Week 2 game against the Seattle Seahawks. He is questionable to return in Week 3.
