The Steelers didn’t escape Saturday’s preseason loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers unscathed. In a postgame press conference, head coach Mike Tomlin mentioned that two members of his team suffered injuries in preseason Week 2: long snapper Christian Kuntz and offensive lineman Gareth Warren.
“Christian Kuntz had a chest injury that’s being evaluated. Gareth Warren is being evaluated for a concussion,” he said in his opening statement. “And then we got some other bumps and bruises associated with play, many of which worked their way back into the game.”
Fielding questions from reporters, Tomlin provided some more context to the severity of Kuntz’s injury.
“I’m not ready to talk hypotheticals about Christian,” he said in response to a question about the possibility of signing another long snapper. “But I think we got some good news there.”
However, Tomlin said he was “certainly pleased” with defensive lineman Logan Lee’s performance as the emergency long snapper in replacement of Kuntz.
Tomlin gave a curt “yes” answer when asked if pass rusher Nick Herbig, who was ruled out of the game early, was OK.
He emphasized the importance of preparation and urgency as Pittsburgh has a short week ahead of the team’s preseason finale on Thursday against the Carolina Panthers.
