After dealing with the first round of training camp injury, the Pittsburgh Steelers tried out five free agent players on Monday.
Tight end Baylor Cupp, tight end Kevin Foelsch, running back Jarveon Howard, running back Lew Nichols and tight end Thomas Yassmin all worked out for the team on Tuesday.
Cupp, 25 is in his second pro season out of Texas Tech. He joined the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent last spring. He was placed on the practice squad in August and spent the entire season there before being placed on the practice squad injured list on Dec. 20. He was re-signed for the 2025 season, but was released by Kansas City on May 1.
Cupp is a 6-foot-6, 243-pound tight end from Brock, Texas. He played his first three college seasons at Texas A&M before transferring to Tech. His best collegiate season came in 2022, when he caught 12 passes for 132 yards and two touchdowns.
Foelsch, 24, also was most recently a member of the Kansas City Chiefs. Foelsch has played with four teams, the Carolina Panthers, New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles and Chiefs in his two NFL seasons, and he has yet to appear in a regular-season game. The 6-foot-4, 250-pound tight end spent four seasons at New Haven, where he caught 32 passes for 318 yards and seven touchdowns as a senior in 2023.
Yassmin, 25, is an Australian who played collegiately at Utah. The 6-foot-5, 251-pound tight end spent the 2024 season with the Denver Broncos as their international player on their practice squad. He was released by Denver on May 12.

The 5-foot-10, 215-pound Alcorn State alum signed with the Green Bay Packers as a UDFA last spring, but was waived with an injury designation on Aug. 20 and did not play again until the spring.
Nichols, 23, was a seventh-round pick of the Green Bay Packers out of Central Michigan in 2023. He was waived with an injury designation that August and ended up on the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad. Nichols re-signed with the Eagles for 2024, was waived in August, and spent most of the season not on a roster.
He re-joined the Eagles practice squad on Dec. 26, was released Dec. 31, and was signed back on Jan. 30, sticking with Philadelphia through the Eagles’ Super Bowl LIX victory. He was waived on July 22.
