Quarterback Russell Wilson wants to re-sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers for 2025, and furthermore, he wants retire as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers, he said in an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show on Wednesday.

“I got so much more in me, man,” Wilson said on Wednesday. “I’m excited, obviously, my goal is to be with the Pittsburgh Steelers a long time and hopefully finish my career there. … Pittsburgh is a special place for me. I love it and hopefully, I can play there a lot longer.”

Wilson is a pending free agent, but added that contract extension conversations have started between him and the team.

“Yes, we have started to talk a little bit, obviously, and we had our meetings and everything else and kind of just getting into it,” he said.

The Steelers have a decision to make at the quarterback position, with both Wilson and backup Justin Fields both set to hit free agency this March.

Wilson seemed to be a lock to return after he took the starting reins from Fields after his preseason injury and led the Steelers to a 10-3 start, but his performance waned as the team lost its final four regular season games on the way to a first-round playoff exit, there are significant questions as to whether the team would want Wilson back for 2025.

The veteran quarterback will be entering his 14th NFL season in 2025 and will be turning 37 years old next season. With Wilson as the primary starter in 2024, the Steelers finished 16th in the NFL in scoring, 23rd in yards and 27th in passing.

One of the areas the team had as a strength throughout most of the season was not turning the ball over, but Wilson had two interceptions and two fumbles lost in the last four weeks of the regular season. They finished 10th in the NFL with 17 turnovers on the year.
