The Pittsburgh Steelers are among several teams eyeing a potential addition to their wide receiver room.
It’s no secret the Pittsburgh Steelers are still looking to add another wide receiver since trading George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys this offseason. That became increasingly clear when they hosted free agent Gabe Davis for a second visit on Tuesday. However, the Steelers aren’t the only team doing its due diligence on the wide receiver market.
According to NFL insider Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the New York Jets, San Francisco 49ers and Minnesota Vikings are also among several teams monitoring the trade market for potential wide receiver additions and have been actively making calls.

That doesn’t bode well for Pittsburgh as options already seem to be dwindling around the league.
The Houston Texans and Green Bay Packers have both been tabbed as teams that could be opening to moving on from wide receivers as they are loaded at the position. However, the Texans dealt wide receiver John Metchie III to the Philadelphia Eagles over the weekend and the Packers have suffered several injuries at the position, likely diminishing any chances of them trading any of their healthy options.
Davis also left the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex without a contract and is visiting his former team, the Buffalo Bills, who many believe are interested in a potential reunion.
That has left very few options for wide receiver-needy teams like the Steelers, and now the price has likely gone up on any available options with several suitors scouring the market.
Pittsburgh has expressed confidence in its wide receiver room, especially second-year player Roman Wilson.
“Wouldn’t say anything if we just thought he was gonna be a guy, just any guy that you can throw in,” quarterback Aaron Rodgers said. “But I think he has a chance to be a big-time talent in the league, so we’re gonna hold him to a high standard. I’m really happy with the way he’s played, but we’re gonna hold him to a standard of excellence that I think he’s capable of reaching.”
So the Steelers may just enter the 2025 season with their current group of playmakers and reevaluate at the NFL’s trade deadline once again.
