PITTSBURGH — Spencer Anderson, the Pittsburgh Steelers’ seventh-round pick in 2023, has made 11 starts over the past two seasons. Heading into training camp, Anderson is competing with Dallas Cowboys transplant Brock Hoffman and rookie third-rounder Gennings Dunker for the starting right guard spot.
Anderson filled in for Isaac Seumalo for spurts a season ago, but is settling back in on the other side of the line.
“Just doing what I do every day,” Anderson said after an OTAs practice at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex. “I know my home is kind of right guard, so just kind of making it my home. I was told to go to right, so I’m just doing my best I can, and I feel comfortable doing it.”
The Steelers’ offensive line coach, James Campen, said at OTAs that everybody’s getting a fair crack at pinning down starting spots, no matter how they wound up in black and gold. That’s good news for Anderson.
“Camp’s cool. Obviously, he’s been around for a while,” Anderson said. “He was in Green Bay for however many years, and obviously he’s coached a lot of All-Pro guys and high-level players, so it’s been good having him being around and just learning some new techniques, different from one’s I’ve learned in the past.”
Former Steelers offensive lineman Trai Essex believes Anderson will win the Steelers starting right guard spot at training camp.
“I think Spencer Anderson has the edge because he has the experience,” Essex said. “He needs to get low. He needs to work on his pass protection and his footwork and his hand placement. Spencer Anderson, I think, has the edge, and I think he wins that battle when it comes to training camp.”
Heading into a contract year, Pittsburgh Steelers guard Spencer Anderson is now being represented by 1 of 1 Agency. The agency revealed the news in an Instagram post.
Two other players from the Steelers’ 2023 draft class are also represented by 1 of 1 Agency — outside linebacker Nick Herbig and defensive tackle Keeanu Benton.
Herbig cashed in on a four-year, $100 million contract extension in June. Benton is also expected to receive an extension.

Acquired: The Steelers drafted Anderson out of the University of Maryland with the 251st overall pick in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
Last Year: Anderson played in all 17 regular-season games for the Steelers in 2024, making four starts on the offensive line. He started the first three games at left guard and his first career game at tackle in Week 11.
