Steelers GM addressed Matthew Stafford rumors from NFL combine

Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Omar Khan spoke to the media for the first time since the team lost to the Baltimore Ravens in the first round of the NFL playoffs.

One of the many rumors floating around this offseason has been Pittsburgh’s interest in Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford.

As usual, Khan wouldn’t talk specifics.

“I’m not going to comment on specific players or things that are out there,” Khan told reporter Jarrett Bailey at the NFL scouting combine. “The one thing I’ve learned is that there’s a lot of fake news out there. That’s just part of what we do, but there’s a lot of fake news out there. I’ll say that all options are on the table until we address our quarterback position.”

Stafford is reportedly seeking $50 million per year, and the Rams would like to acquire a first-round pick in return for Stafford. That’s just not something the Steelers would do, nor should they.

Stafford doesn’t fit what Pittsburgh wants in a quarterback — youth and mobility.

They do, however, have that in Justin Fields. While they’d be wise to get a deal done with him, conflicting reports about re-signing 36-year-old Russell Wilson are surfacing.
