Steelers Getting Surprise Steal at QB? New Mock Draft Has Shedeur Sanders Falling to No. 21

Here’s a new one for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2025 NFL Draft. A mock draft dreamed up by Underdog Fantasy’s Hayden Winks has the Steelers drafting Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders at No. 21 this April. That same scenario has New Orleans moving up to take Miami’s Cam Ward with the top choice. No quarterbacks are taken between those picks.

“I don’t even think opinions are mixed on his tape evaluation,” Winks wrote. “He has nice accuracy and usually plays on time. He just doesn’t have a difference-making physical trait, and some of his sacks are concerning often times because he’s too small or not quick enough. To me, that’s not worthy of a top-5 selection (think Mac Jones, Kenny Pickett, Teddy Bridgewater, Derek Carr, etc.) and the consensus rankings point the same picture.”

Sanders landing with the Steelers would come as quite the surprise, being that three ESPN’s draft analysts think more highly of him. Matt Miller believes Las Vegas will take him at No. 6, while Winks has Boise State running back and Heisman Trophy runner-up Ashton Jeanty going to the Raiders at that spot. Jordan Reid has Sanders going No. 2 to Cleveland and Mel Kiper Jr. penciled him in at No. 3 to the New York Giants.

“Sanders stays poised within the pocket and displays excellent toughness, with a knack for timing-based throws,” Miller wrote last Monday. “He doesn’t have the blazing speed or superior arm strength, but he is extremely accurate, as his 6.5% off-target percentage in 2024 was second among quarterbacks in this class.”

Sanders would be an unlikely answer at signal-caller for Pittsburgh. Sanders threw for 4,134 yards, 37 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions during his second season with the Buffaloes.
