The Pittsburgh Steelers’ chances of landing Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill seem to be diminishing.
Despite the Pittsburgh Steelers finally signing another wide receiver this week, many believe they should still be in the market for a more legitimate threat on the outside. Miami Dolphins five-time first-team All-Pro and eight-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Tyreek Hill is exactly that.
However, ESPN insider Adam Schefter threw cold water on any hopes of a potential trade coming to fruition this season.
“As of Saturday, sources told Schefter, the Dolphins have not fielded any trade inquiries on Hill, who is in the second year of a restructured three-year, $90 million contract,” the report read. “The Dolphins already exercised Hill’s $15.85 million option bonus for this season, leaving a $10 million base salary and $1.8 million in per-game bonuses.”
Multiple teams around the league have continued to monitor Hill’s availability as he is coming off his first sub-1,000-yard season since 2019. The Dolphins are also off to a disappointing 0-2 start with many believing that will continue throughout the rest of the season.
However, Hill is still one of the best wide receivers in the NFL when healthy. He proved that last season while recording 81 catches for 959 yards and six touchdowns and he’s off to another strong start with 10 catches for 149 yards in the first two games of the regular season.
Hill has also expressed that he is happy in Miami.
“I don’t really pay attention to any of that,” he said, when asked about potentially being traded. “I feel like to me, noise is good — adversity is opportunity. I look at it like that.”
That could always change just as it looked like it did this offseason when Hill seemed to be seeking a trade following Miami’s 8-9 campaign last season.
“I don’t even know, bruh,” Hill told Omar Kelly of the Miami Herald. “This is my first time I haven’t been in the playoffs, man, so, I mean, for me, I’ve just got to do what’s best for me and my family. If that’s here, or wherever the case may be, I’m [about to] open that door for myself. …
“Yeah, I’m opening the door — I’m out, bruh. So, it was great playing here, but at the end of the day, I’ve got to do what’s best for my career and what’s best — because I’m too much of a competitor to be just out there.”
Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, walked back on his client’s comments just a few days later, though.
“At the end of the day, he’s committed to this Dolphins football team,” Rosenhaus said. “He had an excellent meeting with [GM] Chris Green and [head coach] Mike McDaniel. I believe that Tyreek is a great asset to the Dolphins and I think he’s the least guy that people should be worried about for this organization.”
