UNITY TWP, Pa. — Pittsburgh Steelers left guard Isaac Seumalo returned to practice on Thursday and has been activated off the non-football injury list. Seumalo was dealing with a soft-tissue injury.
Seumalo was the only Steelers player that was not healthy enough to complete the team’s run test and pre-camp physicals at the start of training camp.
In Seumalo’s absence, the Steelers turned to third-year offensive lineman Spencer Anderson. Anderson played in all 17 games in 2024 and made four starts while Seumalo dealt with an early-season pectoral injury.
If Seumalo remained on the NFI list to start the regular season, he would have been forced to miss the first six weeks of the season.
Following an early season injury, Seumalo bounced back with another steady campaign as a veteran presence for an otherwise youthful group. Offensive line guru Brandon Thorn recently tabbed Seumalo as the 10th-best left guard in the NFL.
“Seumalo is the quintessential crafty veteran guard who does everything at a solid level. His calling card is play speed. Using good quickness and snappy decision-making, he manipulates space and leverage well while consistently operating on time (sorting games, working combinations, etc.),” Thorn wrote. “This helps circumvent his average size, length, and raw power, allowing him to function when physically outmatched by dying slowly in his anchor and using positional leverage to seal off rush lanes.”

Seumalo and left tackle Broderick Jones both worked together at practice on Thursday. Jones has been dealing with a nagging groin injury.
Jones participated in individual periods during the team’s training camp practice on Wednesday but didn’t participate in any full or live contact.
The Steelers had a non-padded practice on Thursday after an intense padded practice yesterday. The Steelers will be in pads tomorrow for their Friday Night Lights practice at Latrobe Memorial Stadium.
