Without a viable No. 2 receiver this season, the Pittsburgh Steelers’ offense was lacking. Defenses focused on star wideout DK Metcalf and a mix of Calvin Austin III, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Adam Thielen tried to distract them.

CBS Sports’ Ryan Wilson had the Steelers upgrading at the position in his latest mock-up of the 2026 NFL Draft. He projected general manager Omar Khan and the team’s front office to select Washington’s Denzel Boston with the No. 21 overall pick.

“A big, physical WR with a massive catch radius, contested-catch ability and the speed to separate quickly and hit top-end velocity in 2-3 steps,” Wilson wrote on Wednesday. “Boston is an effective route runner at all three levels, will run through arm tackles in space, and can outmuscle defenders in the red zone. While primarily an outside threat, his size, strength and hands make him a potential matchup problem in the slot, too. Added bonus: he’s a legit threat as a punt returner.”

Ohio State’s Carnell Tate (New York Gians, No. 5 overall) was the only receiver taken ahead of Boston in the scenario. The Cleveland Browns plucked Arizona State’s Jordyn Tyson (No. 24), the Buffalo Bills took USC’s Makai Lemon (No. 26) and the Los Angeles Rams grabbed Texas A&M’s KC Concepcion (No. 29).

Boston reeled in 62 passes for 881 yards and 11 touchdowns for the Huskies this season. He returned eight punts for 104 yards and a score, as well.

Thielen announced his retirement on Wednesday, while Austin, Valdes-Scantling and Scotty Miller are all free agents.
