The Pittsburgh Steelers are hosting North Carolina running back Omarion Hampton for a top-30 pre-draft visit on Wednesday.
PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers continue to do their homework on the 2025 NFL Draft’s running back class, hosting North Carolina running back Omarion Hampton for a pre-draft visit at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex on Wednesday.
Hampton, 21, is viewed as the second best running back prospect in this year’s draft, behind only Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty. He currently ranks as the No. 23 overall player on the NFL Mock Draft Database consensus big board.
The 6-foot, 221-pound running back has displayed exactly why that should be the case while rushing for 3,164 yards and 30 touchdowns over the past two years at North Carolina. He also recorded 67 catches for 595 yards and three more scores during the span.
Hampton then showed out at the NFL Scouting Combine, running a 4.46-second 40-yard dash and posting a 38-inch vertical jump and 10-foot-10 broad jump.
The Steelers already have running backs Jaylen Warren and Kenneth Gainwell under contract for 2025. But they are smaller-framed backs and set to play on one-year deals.
Hampton, on the other hand, could prove to be the long-term answer at the position while also replacing bruising running back Najee Harris, who joined the Los Angeles Chargers in free agency.
In addition to Hampton, Oregon defensive tackle Derrick Harmon and Oklahoma State running back Ollie Gordon II visited the South Side on Wednesday.
