PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin confirmed during his Tuesday press conference that safety and special teams captain Miles Killebrew will miss the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury in the team’s Week 6 game against the Cleveland Browns.

“Miles Killebrew is out for the season. He had successful knee surgery, but his year is over,” Tomlin said. “Our heart aches for Miles. Obviously, he’s a significant component of what we do.”

On Monday, Killebrew took to social media shortly after having his knee surgery and posted a picture of himself in good spirits.

Killebrew suffered the injury to his right knee in the second quarter of the Steelers’ Week 6 game.

He was helped off the field as he couldn’t put much weight on his right leg and was ushered into the blue medical tent on the sideline. He was later carted to the locker room and ruled out for the remainder of the game.

Killebrew being out for the rest of the season leaves a massive hole for Pittsburgh to fill. Since joining the Steelers in 2021, he’s made 60 combined tackles and was named first-team Associated Press All-Pro in 2023.

Killebrew began his NFL career as a fourth-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions. He spent the first five years of his career in Detroit before signing a one-year contract with the Steelers in 2021.

The 32-year-old immediately made his mark on the team and earned himself a two-year, $4 million contract extension in 2022. After being named to two straight Pro Bowls in 2023 and 2024, he earned yet another two-year contract extension with the Steelers.

A native of Henderson, Nevada, Killebrew played college ball at Southern Utah, where he racked up 356 tackles, four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, seven passes defensed, three interceptions, three blocked kicks and two defensive touchdowns from 2011-15.
