Pittsburgh Steelers rookie wide receiver Germie Bernard is feeling very confident heading into his first NFL season.
There is usually a very big learning curve for rookies as they adapt to the knowledge and speed of the NFL. However, Pittsburgh Steelers rookie wide receiver Germie Bernard is very confident that he will prove he belongs.
“It was just all about confidence for me,” Bernard said on Johnathan “Big Tjme Hank” Hankins podcast. “It’s just knowing that I’ve been playing this game for a long time, but it’s like you wouldn’t be there if you weren’t talented enough to play. So, I was just like, all right, let me step in here with some confidence and just do what I love to do, have fun with it.”
The Steelers clearly believe that as well after trading up to pick No. 47 in the second round of this year’s draft to land Bernard.
The Alabama product is coming off a career-high 64 catches for 862 yards and seven touchdowns in 2025, and he thinks his collegiate career prepared him to make his transition to the next level with ease.
“Alabama helped me in a way a lot just learning how to be a pro, how to go about everything,” Bernard continued. “So now for me, it’s just adapting to the playbook, how to practice, and then just how to take care of my body the right way.”
That’s why many believe Bernard will make an impact early and often as a rookie, but he will have to fight for reps with veterans DK Metcalf, Michael Pittman Jr. and Roman Wilson.
Bernard also impressed at the NFL Scouting Combine, where he recorded a 4.48-second 40-yard dash, 32.5-inch vertical jump and 10-foot-5 broad jump, earning an athleticism score of 75, which ranked 19th at the position.
