While you can’t believe anything Pittsburgh Steelers brass says during media sessions at the NFL scouting combine, general manager Omar Khan has this to say about wide receiver George Pickens:
“I had a really solid exit meeting with G.P. and I can tell you he has a desire to be great and has a desire to be great here,” Khan told Pittsburgh Post Gazette’s Chris Carter on Tuesday. “We have a desire for him to be great and to be great here.”
If what Khan says is true, the Steelers want Pickens, and Pickens wants to be in Pittsburgh.
Asked Omar Khan about the outlook of George Pickens’ future with the #Steelers.
“I had a really solid exit interview with GP. I can tell you he has a desire to be great, and to be great here.”

But Khan also said on Feb. 29, 2024, that the Steelers had “full faith” in Kenny Pickett. He was traded two weeks later.
Pickens is heading into the final year of his rookie contract, and there’s speculation as to whether the Steelers will re-sign, trade, or let him play out his deal in 2025.
Khan acknowledged he has had conversations with the representatives of several pending free agents, but Pickens is under contract through the 2025 season. The Steelers don’t typically begin contract talks with players entering the final year of their contract until the summer.
“With respect to the contract, we won’t discuss that publicly, and usually those things are addressed at a later date,” Khan said.
