Steelers Friday Night Happy Hour: New hobbies edition
Behind the Steel Curtain Behind the Steel Curtain

Welcome back to BTSC’s Friday night open thread:

  1. I hope everyone had a fun Fourth of July last weekend. I had to work that evening, but my girlfriend and I were able to hold a housewarming party at our apartment complex the next day. We did have to pivot 30 minutes before the party when we discovered that the community pool, which also had the BBQ grills we were planning on using, was unexpectedly closed. That leads to my question, because I had to make a Home Depot run to quickly buy a grill. I have long been grill-curious because my dad is quite good with a charcoal grill, and this was the final push I needed to embrace my destiny as a guy who gets really into grilling in his 30s. So my question is: for all you grill aficionados out there, what are some helpful tips you can share about grilling? Especially if you use charcoal. I’ll take anything from tips of the trade to recipes. Thanks!

2. Maybe grilling isn’t your thing, but everybody needs a hobby. What is yours? Has anybody picked up any new hobbies recently they’d like to share and discuss?

3. Every summer, the NFL puts out those player-voted Top 100 lists and gets fans raving about the results. Those lists are silly, but list-making still is fun, so let’s make our own. Give me your top five favorite Steelers of all-time. The only two guidelines I have are: 1. They must be players you remember watching (no naming all-time legends from the 70s if you were born in the 80s and don’t remember them, for example) and 2. This doesn’t have to be about who were the most talented or the most important to the franchise. These are YOUR favorites, whatever criteria that is for you.

4. I love movies, and every few weeks/months I ask about shows and movies people are watching. Lately my girlfriend and I have been watching The Americans, an FX show we missed when it originally aired about Cold War-era spies. I’m also looking forward to going to the theaters to watch The Odyssey and the latest Spider-Man movie later this month. What are some movies or shows you’ve enjoyed recently? Are there any upcoming projects you’re anticipating?

5. Song of the Night:

“Blister in the Sun” – Violent Femmes

This song is one I’ve always associated with summer for some reason and really hit the spot while I was grilling the other night.
