The Pittsburgh Steelers have had a busy offseason, hiring Mike McCarthy to be their new head coach, re-signing quarterback Aaron Rodgers, and recently, extending young star linebacker Nick Herbig on a new $100 million contract. The latest move gives the Steelers a key piece to build around on their defense for years to come.

Now, more is coming out about Herbig’s immediate reaction in the aftermath of the deal.

“Steelers OLB Nick Herbig says he was ‘born to be a Steeler’ after signing his new four-year extension,” reported Nick Farabaugh of PennLive on X, formerly Twitter.

Herbig was selected by the Steelers in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft after having played his college football at Wisconsin. He started to make a name for himself at the NFL level in the 2024 season, forcing a fumble on Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry and making several other big plays throughout the campaign.

Now, Herbig is set to be a member of the Steelers over the long haul, and clearly, he is excited about the opportunity.

It will be interesting to see if the Steelers are able to build off what they did last year, when they backdoored their way into the NFL playoffs with a late-season win over the Baltimore Ravens, but then were destroyed by the Houston Texans once they got there, making it clear that they still had a ways to go in order to contend.

The hope is that McCarthy will be able to inject some new life into the Steelers’ organization, which has been on a carousel of early playoff exits for the last few years.

Pittsburgh will kick off its 2026 season on September 13 against the Atlanta Falcons at home.
