The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed general manger Omar Khan to a three-year contract extension, the team announced on Thursday.

The new three-year deal for Khan will keep him in Pittsburgh through the end of the 2028 season. Khanโ€™s deal is one-year longer than that of Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, whose most recent three-year contract extension runs through 2027.

Khan, 48, has been the teamโ€™s general manger since taking over or Kevin Colbert in the summer of 2022. He is in the midst of his third full offseason as the teamโ€™s general manager.

Khan originally joined the Steelers as a football administration coordinator in 2001, rising up the ranks to director of football administration and vice president of football administration, and winning Super Bowl rings for the teamโ€™s Super Bowl XL and XLIII titles.

His tenure as general manger has been noted for a marked increase in the aggressiveness with which the team operates in the trade and free agency markets. He and assistant general manager Andy Weidl have also undertaken a trenches-out rebuild of the team, using top-four round picks on offensive tackle Broderick Jones, defensive tackle Keeanu Benton, offensive tackle Troy Fautanu, center Zach Frazier, guard Mason McCormick, defensive tackle Derrick Harmon and defensive tackle Yahya Black over their first three draft classes.

A New Orleans, Louisiana native, Khan attended Archbishop Rummel high school in Metairie, Louisiana before matriculating to Tulane, where he was a student assistant with the football team. He got his NFL start with his hometown Saints in 1997, working for five seasons in New Orleans before coming to Pittsburgh.
