PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin revealed during his weekly Tuesday press conference that they’re optimistic about wide receiver Calvin Austin III’s status for Sunday night’s game against the Green Bay Packers.
Austin missed the last two games with a shoulder injury.
“As we stand here today, we’re optimistic,” Tomlin said.
Tomlin added that there may be some vets with “bumps and bruises” that miss practice time, but all should play.
Getting back Austin should provided a big boost for the Steelers offense as they prepare to face the 4-1-1 Packers on Sunday Night Football.
Austin has played a key role in Pittsburgh’s offense, doing his best to help fill the void wide receiver George Pickens left when he was traded to the Dallas Cowboys this offseason. Through the first four games of the season, Austin recorded 10 catches for 139 yards and two touchdowns.
Austin suffered his injury during the Steelers’ Week 4 win over the Minnesota Vikings in Dublin, Ireland. Many feared the injury was much worse than it turned out to be after he was quickly taken to a local hospital for imaging.
However, it turns out that Croke Park, unlike most NFL stadiums, does not have in-stadium x-ray capacity.
A fourth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Austin has recorded 63 receptions for 867 yards and seven touchdowns in his professional career.
