PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker Alex Highsmith did not practice on Wednesday with an ankle injury.
Highsmith suffered the injury during the first half of Sunday’s Week 9 win over the Indianapolis Colts. He returned to the game after missing about 10 plays, and went on to have a fantastic performance, winning AFC Defensive Player of the Week for his two sacks, forced fumble, three tackles for loss, pass defense and quarterback hit.
Highsmith spoke with the media after practice on Wednesday and did not appear to be in any significant discomfort.
The Steelers’ starting right outside linebacker missed two games with an ankle injury earlier this season. He suffered the injury in practice before the Week 2 game against the Seattle Seahawks, and tried to play through it, but was unable to.
Highsmith missed the team’s Week 3 and 4 games before returning after the bye. In six games this season, he has 3.5 sacks, four tackles for loss and seven quarterback hits.
Nick Herbig replaced Highsmith when he missed time earlier this season and would be in line to do so again if he can’t suit up or is limited in reps this week.
