PITTSBURGH — Logan Lee admitted that nerves set in with his newfound task. The Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle had hardly practiced it as a professional and hadn’t done it in a game since he was a senior in high school. Even then, he’d only been responsible for it because he played for a smaller team.

But all Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin had to do Saturday night was give Lee a nod, and there he was, long-snapping on special teams in place of the injured Christian Kuntz.

“It went fairly well,” Lee said, assessing his crack at it during a 17-14 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. “I’m definitely a defensive lineman. But I’m blessed with the opportunity again and prayers to Christian.”

Lee said he takes five snaps a day, just in case. Lee snapped the ball twice during a training camp practice before last season. The Steelers entered this year’s training camp with two snappers, but released Tucker Addington earlier this month, using his spot to sign quarterback Logan Woodside.

“My college coach, (Iowa defensive line coach) Kelvin Bell, always talks about, ‘When talent is equal, everything else matters,'” Lee said. “So he would always encourage me to just add value in other ways.”

Tomlin talks about the same thing, stressing, “The more you can do.” Even tackling a different role, Lee had his sights set on tracking down the returner.

“First few, I was really (motivated),” Lee said. “And then I (thought), I was like, ‘This is a lot of running. I don’t run like this.’ But yeah, the more you can do. It would’ve been nice if I could’ve made a tackle.”
