The Pittsburgh Steelers have already seen one starting defensive lineman go down with injury, with Derrick Harmon suffering a sprained MCL. Now, another Pittsburgh starter is dealing with an injury.

Chris Halicke of DK Pittsburgh Sports reports that defensive tackle Keeanu Benton is dealing with an upper-body injury.

“Keeanu Benton is dealing with an upper-body injury,” Halicke reports. “He did not practice today. However, there’s optimism he’ll be ready for the season opener against the Jets. Still significant since Derrick Harmon is currently week-to-week with an MCL sprain.”

The Steelers seem to get bitten by the injury bug every season, specifically on defense. In 2023, Cam Heyward was injured in the season opener against the San Francisco 49ers. The Steelers had several injuries in the secondary and at linebacker that season, as well, causing them to bring Myles Jack out of retirement and sign safety Eric Rowe off the street.

In 2024, Alex Highsmith missed six games with various injuries. Nick Herbig missed four games. Now, it appears the defensive interior is getting hit hard. For the Steelers’ sake, let’s hope these injuries are a temporary problem.
