Steelers’ DK Metcalf surprised by upheld suspension

The Pittsburgh Steelers have successfully escaped the two-week period in which star wideout DK Metcalf served his suspension.

The discipline came after Metcalf attempted to strike a Detroit Lions fan who was taunting Pittsburgh’s WR1. Despite his antics, the Steelers were still able to squeeze out a playoff berth with their win over Baltimore on Sunday.

Now, with a wildcard round matchup against Houston from Acrisure Stadium a week away, the Ole Miss product is beginning to break his silence.

Metcalf appreciative of Steelers through suspension

On Monday, the 6-foot-four receiver spoke with the media regarding his suspension and the previous few weeks. Pittsburgh beat writer Alan Saunders detailed the words of Metcalf in an X post.

Saunders described that the seventh-year pro was quiet about discussing what occurred in Detroit, but provided an update on what the process has looked like since.

“Steelers WR DK Metcalf just spoke to the media,” said Saunders. “He gave no details whatsoever about his side of the story about what happened in Detroit.

“He did say he was surprised the suspension was upheld on appeal, and thanked his teammates for supporting him while he was out.”

While Metcalf remains silent regarding the details of the incident in Detroit, he did voice his surprise that, upon appeal, his suspension was upheld.

Following the incident, the NFL reminded fans of the policies involving viewers and players. Yahoo Sports’ Andrew Holleran detailed the list:

• Behavior that is unruly, disruptive, threatening, or illegal in nature.
• Intoxication or other signs of alcohol or substance impairment.
• Foul or abusive language or obscene gestures.
• Interference with the progress of the game (including throwing objects onto the field).
• Failing to follow the instructions of law enforcement, guest services, and security personnel.
• Verbal or physical harassment of any fellow fans or staff.
• Unreasonably obstructing the view of other patrons.
• Offensive language or obscene gestures, to include the use of such language or gestures concerning a person’s race, ethnicity, color, gender, religion, creed, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression or national origin; or to instigate, incite or encourage a confrontation or physical assault.
• Any conduct deemed inappropriate or dangerous to fans, participants, or team members.
• Conduct those results in damage to the stadium or other personal property.

Earlier this season, Cincinnati Bengals star receiver Ja’Marr Chase got into it with Steelers CB/S Jalen Ramsey. After engaging with one another, Chase spat on Ramsey’s jersey, taking the scuffle to a new level. Upon further review, it was deemed that Chase would face a one-game suspension, which he also appealed to no avail.
