Look no further for a nickname for the Pittsburgh Steelers’ newest receiving duo. DK Metcalf, the team’s leader in receiving yards and touchdown grabs last season, has landed on one.
On Tuesday night, the Steelers posted a slow-motion video on X and Instagram of Metcalf snaring a 25-yard touchdown pass from Aaron Rodgers at home against the Cleveland Browns last season, the Week 6 score being announced by CBS’ Ian Eagle.
A word search was overlayed on the highlight play, with the reel being captioned, “Found it.” Michael Pittman Jr. reposted the clip on his Instagram story with the dog emoji, and Metcalf put Pittman’s upload on his own story.
“Twin Towers loading,” Metcalf wrote on the post, alluding to the fact that Mike McCarthy’s team might have the tallest 1-2 receiving punch in the league.
Metcalf and Pittman both stand 6-foot-4.
Yahoo Sports’ Matt Harmon said last week that he thinks Pittman could end up being the Steelers’ top receiver statistically.
the odds should be pretty close to him just straight-up outproducing DK Metcalf this year in Pittsburgh,” Harmon said. “Michael Pittman, what I think people don’t give enough credit to is that he’s just a perfect fit for Aaron Rodgers right now. We know that Rodgers wants to play the game in a very specific format. He wants to kinda spread things out, do the point-and-shoot thing, he wants a lot of these free-access throws and get the ball out of his hands quickly.
“And you look at Michael Pittman, he is still very good at being able to do that. … You look at some of the routes that he ran (last season) with high frequency — flats, curls — those are Aaron Rodgers routes. The quick hitches and everything as the ‘Z’ receiver, I think we’ll see a ton of that for Michael Pittman. Some of the quick slants and in-breakers and screens, as well.”
