PITTSBURGH — It’s been a weird injury week for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Kyle Dugger is set to return for the Steelers this week, after missing last week’s game against the Baltimore Ravens because a cut on his hand got infected, he said on Friday.

Dugger said that he had a cut on his hand for several weeks, and it kept re-opening and causing issues. He had been playing through it, but when it became infected last week, he had to take the drastic step of sitting out against Baltimore.

“It’s a cut that kept reopening from previous weeks. … The bacteria got into it,” Dugger said. “Just safety of the hand, and it getting infected or possibly getting worse and spreading to my bone.

While an infected cut sounds scary, Dugger brushed aside the issue, particularly in comparison to having a pair of teammates hospitalized this week in DK Metcalf and T.J. Watt.

“It really wasn’t too scary, but it was frustrating,” he said. “Obviously, I was just glad the team won.”

Dugger was replaced in the lineup by Chuck Clark and Jabrill Peppers on Sunday in Baltimore, and he credited their professionalism for getting the job done.
