The Pittsburgh Steelers seem to have a rising star in one of their rookies from the 2025 NFL Draft.
The Pittsburgh Steelers had several players who impressed during the 2025 NFL preseason, but maybe none more than one of their rookies from this year’s draft.
Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports named Steelers defensive tackle Yahya Black to the Preseason All-Rookie Team.
“Black is 6-5 and 317 pounds and the smaller of the two selections here,” Trapasso wrote. “In Pittsburgh, Black played like Cam Heyward in the preseason, tossing blockers aside with ease in the run game while generating intermitted pressure.”

Pittsburgh selected Black in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft after landing defensive tackle Derrick Harmon in the first round.
However, Black had a preseason to remember, racking up six tackles, two for a loss, two sacks, one quarterback hit and one forced fumble over the past three weeks.
The Steelers are hoping that success will continue into the regular season, especially after Harmon suffered a knee sprain in the preseason finale, putting his status for the start of the season up in the air.
Black has already come a long way in his football career. He reportedly arrived to Iowa at just 250 pounds but has put a ton of work into his strength training.
“We like Yahya’s progress,” Steelers defensive coordinator Teryl Austin said. “As you guys know, he is not a little man. When he really learns how to use all the tools at his disposal, he’s going to be a load inside.”
Black played his collegiate career at Iowa, where he recorded 117 tackles (51 solo), 5.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and nine passes defensed from 2020-24.
