The 3x All-Pro wants to continue to play corner in Pittsburgh.
After an offseason full of splash moves and trades, the Steelers still find themselves with a few small holes on the roster. Of course, no roster is truly perfect, but when Jalen Ramsey and Jonnu Smith were acquired from the Miami Dolphins in a trade, it left a clear hole at the starting free safety spot.
With an obvious need at free safety, Steelers media took the opportunity to ask Jalen Ramsey about his willingness to play the position.
Ramsey, who was asked outright by the media is he would be willing to play safety, had an interesting response.
“I’m not getting paid what I’m getting paid to not affect the game and be in certain spots,” Ramsey said.
While it was not a complete “no” from Ramsey on the aspect of playing safety, it does suggest that he wants to be utilized as a corner, much like he has been throughout his career.
How the Steelers truly plan to utilize Ramsey should become clearer over the next few weeks, as training camp practices begin on July 24th. While Ramsey seems not to want to be a full-time safety, the Steelers could certainly use Ramsey’s versatility this season to play all over the secondary.
