The Pittsburgh Steelers have released wide receiver Rakim Jarrett from the practice squad after just one week with the team, according to the NFL transactions report for Tuesday.

The Steelers signed Jarrett on Sept. 8 after an earlier tryout, and he spent one week with the team. Jarrett was not elevated for the team’s Week 2 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

Jarrett, 24, spent the last two seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after first joining the Bucs as an undrafted free agent out of Maryland in 2023. He was waived as part of the Bucs’ final roster cuts on Aug. 26.

Jarrett spent stretches of both of his pro seasons on the injured reserve list, missing time from Nov. 22 to Jan. 5 in the 2023 season, and starting the 2024 season on IR before being activated on Oct. 26.

Jarrett played in all three preseason games for the Buccaneers this season, including against the Steelers in Week 2 at Acrisure Stadium, when he caught one pass for eight yards.

A 6-foot, 192-pound receiver from Palmer Park, Maryland, Jarrett played three seasons with his hometown Terrapins. His best statistical season was in 2021, when he caught 62 passes for 829 yards and five touchdowns. At Maryland, Jarrett was a teammate of Dino Tomlin, the son of Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin.

Jarrett ran a 4.44-second 40-yard dash in pre-draft testing and posted an overall 8.42 Relative Athletic Score out of 10.

In addition to Jarrett, the Steelers also released tight end JJ Galbreath from the practice squad on Tuesday. They have not yet announced corresponding moves.
