The Pittsburgh Steelers released cornerback Cameron McCutcheon from their injured reserve list, according to the NFL transactions page.

McCutcheon was placed through waivers on Tuesday, cleared on Wednesday and is now free to sign with any other team. The Steelers did not reach an injury settlement with McCutcheon, meaning that he had to pass a physical to prove his health before being able to be removed from the injured reserve list.

McCutcheon is now free to sign with any team other than the Steelers. He must wait three additional weeks before he can re-sign in Pittsburgh after being released from the team’s IR.

It’s the second time McCutcheon has cleared waivers in a one-month time period. He was first waived with an injury designation on Aug. 11 after suffering a hamstring injury during the team’s preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars. McCutcheon cleared then and ended up on the Steelers’ injured reserve list.

McCutcheon had an interception in the preseason opener, but it was called back due to a roughing the passer penalty. He was injured while covering a punt as a gunner late in the game and finished without any statistics.

An undrafted free agent out of Western Carolina in 2023, McCutcheon spent all of the last two seasons bouncing between the Los Angeles Rams practice squad and active roster, without playing in game. He signed with the Steelers on a future contract in January.

During his collegiate career at Western Carolina, he started 21 games in which he recorded 79 tackles (48 solo) and two interceptions. McCutcheon was one of four defenders and seven players on the team to start all 11 games during his final season.

McCutcheon transferred to Western Carolina from Gardner-Webb during the summer of 2021. During his time at Gardner-Webb, he amassed 87 tackles (63 solo), one interception and seven passes defended.
