The Pittsburgh Steelers have placed defensive tackle Domenique Davis on waivers, according to the NFL transactions page for Tuesday.
Davis suffered an injury during the Steelers’ final preseason game. He had been on the team’s injured reserve list since he was waived with an injury designation on the final cut-down day back in August. He cleared waivers then and reverted to the injured reserve list.
If he clears waivers on Wednesday, Davis will be a free agent and eligible to sign with any team.
Davis, 29, spent the offseason with the Steelers, but was released early in camp when the Steelers signed safety Chuck Clark. Davis was re-signed a few days later.
The 6-foot-2 and 326-pound nose tackle initially joined the Steelers last November, spending a month on the practice squad after the Cincinnati Bengals let him go. He never saw any game action with the Steelers.
After finishing out last season with the Bengals, he chose Pittsburgh as a free agent this offseason, expressing his desire to play as a nose tackle in a 3-4 scheme.
“It’s definitely built for me,” he said this spring. “I played under Tim Lewis before in the USFL. I already know it suits my talents better.”
Davis went undrafted in 2020 after a college career at Division II UNC-Pembroke. He signed with the New York Jets, but was let go after failing a physical. Davis fought to resuscitate his career with the USFL’s Houston Gamblers, posting 24 tackles and four sacks in 2022.
