The Pittsburgh Steelers have waived defensive tackle Jacob Slade with an injury designation, the team announced on Friday.

Slade suffered a knee injury during practice on Wednesday and did not participate in the team’s Thursday practice.

Slade will now go through waivers. Because he was released with an injury designation, if he clears waivers, he will revert to the Steelers’ injured reserve list, where he will spend the entire 2025 season unless he and the club reach an injury settlement. The only way he can play for the Steelers again this season is if he re-signs with the team after his injury settlement expires.

The Steelers are dealing with a rash of injuries at the defensive tackle position, with Slade, Esezi Otomewo and Dean Lowry all suffering knee injuries during Wednesday’s practice.

The Steelers signed former Minnesota defensive tackle Kyler Baugh as the corresponding transaction for Slade’s release. They have also agreed to re-sign defensive tackle Breiden Fehoko, and will need to clear another roster spot to do so.

Slade, 25, is in his second season with the Steelers. He first joined the club on a future contract in January 2024. He spent all of the 2024 season on the Steelers practice squad, without appearing in a game, and was re-signed for 2025 this offseason.

A Michigan State alum, Slade originally signed with the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 and spent his entire first pro season on their practice squad. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Maulers of the USFL, but never played for the team.

The Steelers’ roster remains at 91 players after the pair of moves on Friday.
