The Pittsburgh Steelers have placed rookie guard Aiden Williams on waivers, the team announced on Monday, after a knee injury cost most of the preseason.

Williams suffered a left knee injury during the team’s preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars — a game where the rookie was acquitting himself nicely.

Williams played 54 snaps in Jacksonville, all at right guard. He had 32 pass-block snaps and allowed just one pressure, per Pro Football Focus, giving him a pass blocking efficiency of 98.3.

After the injury, Williams did not return to practice until Monday’s session right before he was released.

The 6-foot-5, 314-pound Williams joined the Steelers as an undrafted free agent out of Division II Minnesota-Duluth.

He started his college career at tight end before moving to tackle with the Bulldogs. The Steelers first scouted him at the 2025 East-West Shrine Bowl. Williams is a native of Anchorage, Alaska

Williams was released, along with 13 other players on Monday, as the Steelers cut down from 80 players to 67. They have 14 more cuts to make before Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Williams will go through waivers, which will process at noon on Wednesday. With the injury and the early returns on the transition to guard, it would not be surprising if the Steelers added Williams to the practice squad, if he clears.
